âI really donât want to get white-girl-wasted right now.â
The Mariachi band is loud. But I donât care. Iâm here with the hottest woman Iâve ever seen.
âI had a good time, even despite you doing your best Patty Hearst impersonation.â
âShut up, I did not.â She jokes. âAnd it was actually fun.â
My ears perk up. âWait, Iâm sorry, what was that? It was what?â
âIâm not saying it again, so you can give that up right now. But I was ready for you to revert back to either trying something sneaky or being rude. Congrats on doing neither.â
What? You mean like staging an entire YouTube challenge that involves millions of our fans and a whole lot of infrastructure, only for the purpose of getting you to go out with me? That kind of sneaky. God, maybe I am a dick.
âI do have different sides to my personality, you know. I mean, sure, I may have made one boner joke too many, but they just kept coming.â
âThatâs what she said.â
She cracks me up. Iâm not going to lie, it was her face and body that drew me to her at VidCon, but I love her messed up sense of humor. The waitress brings us appetizers and some oversized margaritas. âWow.â
âWow is right. Itâs so big.â
âItâs too soon for another âthatâs what she saidâ joke, isnât it?â
âA little. I messed that up for you, Iâm sorry. I think you need at least five-minute gaps between distasteful jokes.â
âOkay. Well, Iâm under that, so weâll just each think it to ourselves and laugh on the inside.â
She seems to be warming up to me. I canât tell if she likes me also or finds me attractive. I know she thinks Iâm this cocky asshole, but Iâm not. I really canât read if sheâs into me or not. Every now and then she has a certain look in her eyes, a way she tilts her head and laughs, or some other small sign that maybe she doesnât think Iâm someone worth ghosting for a month, but then itâs gone again just as fast as it appeared.
âSo I think itâs time to talk about those things I said I didnât want to talk about.â
âBut. . . what you just said makes no. . .â
âYeah, Iâm weird like that, you just have to deal with it. In my head it made sense, and thatâs all that really matters at the end of the day. So weâre here, weâre on our date, so that box is checked. Now what else?â
âLook Iâm really not trying to force you into something you donât want to do. If you really feel strongly that you donât want to do it, you donât have to. Weâll just call this the end of it. Itâs up to you.â
âNow why would you go and change the terms all of a sudden? You wielded your Alpha power to get everyone to pressure me, why stop now?â
I think its time to be honest.
I lean into her, just a little, enough to let her know that I like being as close to her as possible.
